P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center is pleased to announce Warm Up 2006, the critically acclaimed music series that has become one of New York’s most exciting and anticipated summer events. The series is a curated mix of live music and DJ acts, and has become an integral part of P.S.1’s summer programming. The backdrop of this year’s Warm Up is BEATFUSE! by the New York-based OBRA Architects, the winner of the 2006 MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects Program.
Warm Up 2006 opens with the ten-year reunion of Body & SOUL with Danny Krivit, François K. and Joe Claussell. The legendary New York-based group is known for putting on spirited—and spiritual—daytime dance parties. Other highlights from the 2006 series include The Idjut Boys, Rub-n-Tug, The Glimmers, Kudu, The Juan Maclean, DJ Loda, Carl Craig, and A Guy Called Gerald. On August 5, Warm Up will be organized by the designer agnès b.
"For this year’s Warm Up we have brought together another groundbreaking lineup, including innovative and up-and-coming bands, pioneers of disco and house from the U.S. and abroad, along with some of the foremost electronic experimentalists in the world," said Warm Up Curator Jason Drummond.
Past Warm Up live performances and DJ sets have included renowned international acts, including DJ Harvey, Groove Collective, Juan Atkins, Stacey Pullen, Lovebug Starski, MU, Monolake, Afrika Bambaataa, Mad Professor, Richie Hawtin, Danny Krivit, Trevor Jackson, Francois K, DJ Craze, Charlie Dark, Vikter Duplaix, Fischerspooner, Frederic Galliano, Kid Koala, Arto Lindsay, Scissor Sisters, Jeannie Hopper, Ursula Rucker, Derrick May, Swayzak, Luke Vibert, X-Press 2, Danny Wang, and many more.
The music series, conceived in 1997 as a summer-long dance party to attract crowds to Long Island City, Queens and P.S.1, now draws thousands of locals and visitors every Saturday for a merging of exciting music, contemporary art, and fascinating people-watching. It has received critical attention both stateside and worldwide. Time Out New York readers voted Warm Up the “best club” in New York City, and The Observer (UK) ranked it #10 of “The 20 Hottest Beach Parties in the World.”
Virtual visitors can stream live broadcasts of Warm Up via WPS1.org Art Radio. The broadcasts will be archived on WPS1.org.
