This article refers to the P.S.1 exhibition Kathe Burkhart
Dividing her time between New York and Amsterdam, Kathe Burkhart’s exhibition includes paintings from her ongoing Liz Taylor Series, new photographs of nude beach scenes, and a set of haikus spelled out in Dutch chocolate. Burkhart’s haikus are a curious creation. The letters refer to the Dutch annual tradition of Sinterklass day (December 5), in which children put their shoes out before going to sleep with the expectation of a visit from Sinterklass. In the morning their shoes are filled with chocolate letters representing their initials. These chocolates, as well as poems, are exchanged between adults and children during the Christmas season.
This is how to tell
Who really loves you, and who
Is just using you.
Please tell me how much
longer this pleasure will last
before it turns to shit.
Yes is the new no.
No sex is the new sex. Men
are the new women.
